The professional grade belt drive automatic openers are known for being very quiet! The ½ HP opener is an excellent option, and the DC motor is known for being even quieter. While the chain drive openers are known for excellent and long lasting durability, they tend to be noisier. If you choose the ¾ HP or DC motor chain drive, it will offer some noise reduction in comparison the standard ½ HP chain drive.

In general, the garage door springs are what do the heavy lifting of your garage door. The opener is only there to gently assist in the raising and lowering process. If you have a heavier garage door, you should have stronger springs. For most standard garage doors, ½ HP is more than enough to do a great job. However, if you have an oversized, solid wood, or extremely heavy garage door, you may opt for a ¾ HP or DC motor in either the chain drive or the belt drive.

This will all be up to your preference and needs! Both the professional grade chain drive and belt drive are excellent openers. The chain drive was originally built for heavy loads and frequent use, although it can tend to be noisier than it’s belt driven counterpart. The belt drive is still an excellent opener and will offer quite a bit of noise reduction. If you go with an upgraded chain drive opener such as the DC motor or ¾ HP, it can offer some noise reduction as well.

Definitely! There is such a wide range in quality of garage door openers that are on the market today. Some are rated for 7+ years, and some are known to last for 15-30 years if they are taken care of well. While they may be slightly more on cost up front, it is worth it in the end! There are builder’s grade openers and there are professional grade openers. In our opinion, Chamberlain and especially LiftMaster Professional are some of the best openers on the market and are known for durability, strength, longevity, and minimal repairs over the years. Many customers choose to go with an opener that has a battery backup in it. If your home loses power, you will still be able to open the garage door with your remotes, keypad, car, and interior wall button. Sometimes if you lose power the codes for all these accessories may get wiped out as well, so having a battery backup may prevent this!

In most cases, you can! If you have a car model that is compatible with the HomeLink® feature, our installers can get your opener programmed directly to the buttons in your car. No need to keep track of remote controls!

We sure can! However, we do highly recommend our openers for a few reasons.

It is important to use a manufacturer you can trust! Our openers generally come with a solid-piece rail that goes from the opener to the door. If an opener is found online or at a general hardware store, it will normally come with a pieced-together rail, or, often, no rail at all.

·   Cost: When the cost is compared, (buying a unit and paying to have it installed vs purchasing one of our openers) it will come out pretty close, if not the same, or more for installing a different opener. If the cost is the same, it is definitely better go with a reputable brand with an extended warranty.

·   Warranty: If we install one of our openers, the warranty will be much longer and will cover both the parts and labor vs just labor.
